During this workshop you will learn to cast a small shell or fossil in silver. There will be a selection of shells available for you to cast but we would encourage you to find your own special little shell to make a piece of jewellery or keepsake with. Your tutor, Leah, will be on hand to guide you step by step and ensure you take home something special to be proud of. Leah will carry out the hot works for any youngsters attending so it is a safe workshop for even quite young children.
Included in the price are all the tools you will need to cast, clean and polish your silver shell. The silver you use to cast with will cost extra (approximately 80 pence per gramme). On average, the workshop attendees spend between £10 and £30 on silver but the amount spent can go up drastically if you bring in a relatively large shell (or other item) to cast, so please bear this in mind.
The workshop generally lasts for about two hours. When booking you will have the choice of either a morning or afternoon workshop. Morning workshops usually run from 10:30-12:30 and the afternoon sessions usually run from 14:00-16:00. Occasionally we have other start times which will have been specified on the booking calendar or pre-arranged with us. Available dates are shown in green or amber on the calendar when booking.
Workshops are held in the basement of our premises at 59 The Old High Street, Folkestone, CT20 1RN. There are a number of steps to the basement so this may be difficult for those with mobility issues.
There is no vehicle access to The Old High Street during the day but there is a bus stop a short walk away on Tontine Street. The nearest car park, on Tram Road, is also located nearby. The parking fee is £1.20 per hour up to a maximum of £8 for the whole day.
